How to use your PC and Webcam as a motion sensor camera with recording abilities

There are countless applications for a motion sensor camera. To capture images o burglar, to monitor your maid or your house-mates, to capture the scenery outside your house, etc.

If you own a PC and a Webcam, you can do this easily at your own home. All you need is a PC with Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP; a webcam; and Dogem. Dogem is an open source software .

Having your webcam installed, all you need is to download, install and configure Dorgem.

  • First you’ll need to do the “Camera selection”, you’ll choose this in the drop-down box;
  • Then you can click the “Preview” button, below the drop-down box in order to preview your webcam
  • By clicking on “Source” button, you can adjust all kind of specifications to the camera, such as brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and more
  • Clicking on the “Options” button will open a new window
    • Tick the box labeled “Use motion detection”, click “OK”
  • Click on “Storage events” to create a profile
    • Choose “File”, and click “OK”
    • Specify a name, the interval and the filename
    • Choose the format in the “Save as” window, click “OK”
  • Now you will see a new “Storage settings” with the name you’ve given, click “close”

Now your motion sensor camera should be ready to be used. Try it out and see if there are new pictures in the folder you’ve specified.

There’s also an advance setting that allows you to use multiple cameras.
