GE 45132 Wireless Motion Sensor Alarm

The GE 45132 Wireless Motion Sensor is a module, which detects motion in a certain area. It can be used indoors or outdoors (as it is weather-resistant) of your home and can be used within 40 feet away. It can also survey movement in an angle of 110 degree. Once the module is installed, this angle can be easy adjusted.

It’s a great choice to set it in all areas of your house such as the kitchen, living room, entry area, hallways, garage, balconies, backyards, etc.

This motion sensor alarm module works in conjunction with the GE 45129 Wireless Control Center. This Control Center is required as the sensor will communicate with the Control Center which is the alarm system itself. They can be mounted 150 feet away.

GE 45129 Choice-Alert Wireless Control Center

This control center is the core of all the sensors, it communicates wirelessly with all the sensors and other modules for the Choice Alert Alarm System.

It has a built-in 5 button keypad which makes it really easy to configure with other modules such as a motion sensor

It supports 16 sensors which can be set as 4 separate Zones and has 120-decibel siren. It also has a home and away setting.

Installation

Installation is super easy and can be done DIY as everything you need is in the box, and there are no wiring or drilling required.

The sensitivity of the sensor can be set to either high or low.

The connection to the Control Center can be configured in 2 ways, in Alarm Mode or in Monitoring Mode. For setting in Alarm Mode, set it to Zone 1, 2 or 3. For setting to alert a trigger only, set it to Zone 4.

If you own a PC and a Webcam, you can do this easily at your own home. All you need is a PC with Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP; a webcam; and Dogem. Dogem is an open source software .

Having your webcam installed, all you need is to download, install and configure Dorgem.

First you’ll need to do the “Camera selection”, you’ll choose this in the drop-down box;
Then you can click the “Preview” button, below the drop-down box in order to preview your webcam
By clicking on “Source” button, you can adjust all kind of specifications to the camera, such as brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and more
Clicking on the “Options” button will open a new window
- Tick the box labeled “Use motion detection”, click “OK”
Click on “Storage events” to create a profile
- Choose “File”, and click “OK”
- Specify a name, the interval and the filename
- Choose the format in the “Save as” window, click “OK”
Now you will see a new “Storage settings” with the name you’ve given, click “close”

Now your motion sensor camera should be ready to be used. Try it out and see if there are new pictures in the folder you’ve specified.

There’s also an advance setting that allows you to use multiple cameras.

There are various types of motion sensor alarms. Usually a system consists of a sensor, a controller and an output (speaker). The sensor basically monitors the area, the controller is used to activate or inactivate the system by inputting a password and the speaker is pretty self explanatory.

Similarly if you go on holiday, you can just set the alarm on 24 hours a day. There are systems that even let you monitor your house via an online interface, noticing you if something is wrong even if you are abroad. More advance systems could incorporate a motion sensor camera which would record if it senses movement.

Traditional Circuit Alarms

There are two types of circuit alarm: closed circuit and open circuit. The concept is a simple electrical current in which is either open or close. This can be applied on a window or a door. The alarm is triggered when the door or window is opened.

The disadvantage of this system is that all the burglar has to do is to cut off the wires, nevertheless the control box is usually put away so the criminal can’t find it easily. This is the most common type of motion sensor alarms.

Motion Detectors

Motion detector works by constantly monitoring a space for irregular wave patterns. The idea is that when there are disturbances in the room this perturbs the general pattern that the sensor is set to, thus triggering the alarm. This is a radar-based motion sensor.

Another type of motion sensors are photo-sensors and infrared sensors. In the first example it works by hitting a beam of light to a sensor. For example it can be fitted across a pass way between a door or a room. If a person is between the beam of light and its sensor, the alarm is triggered. This is also a very commonly used motion sensor alarm nowadays.

In the infrared sensor, which are more advanced, it triggers the alarm by detecting a higher temperature (output by a human for example), which will usually be higher than the ambient temperature in a house. Obviously it is not a good idea to use this type of alarm if you own a pet.

One thing is true, there’s never enough security to be implemented in your own house!
